In 2014 the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences will celebrate its 300th Anniversary. Widely known as the oldest scientific institution of Russia, it was founded in 1714 by order of Tzar Peter the Great, initially as a Apothecary (Physic) Garden.
The 300th anniversary of the foundation of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is listed in the UNESCO 2014 calendar of events.
The official celebration will take place on June 24-25, 2014:
June 24 – international conference “The Botany: History, Theory, Practice”
June 25 – the official plenary meeting in honour of the 300th Anniversary of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences
On June 24, 2014 Russian and international invited lecturers will discuss major aspects of modern botany at the international interdisciplinary scientific conference. The official plenary meeting on June 25, 2014 will be devoted to presentations on the history and scientific achievements of the Komarov Botanical Institute as well as to formal greetings and congratulations from around the world.
June 23, 26 and 27 will see a number of visits to Institute’s laboratories and collections, as well as seminars, press-conferences and other conference side events, including he meeting of the Council of the “World Flora Online” project (June, 26-27).
On June 27 and 28 post-conference botanical tours are planned.
