Job Title Assistant Professor, Botany
Type of Employment Regular Full-Time
Tenure-track position beginning August 2020.
Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teach introductory and upper-level courses in biology, including Botany, Field Botany, and Systematic Botany. Conduct research, pursue external funding, and advise student research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Advise students toward careers as in the ecological and evolutionary sciences and/or other fields in plant science. The successful candidate will also be the curator of the MSU Herbarium, which has over 40,000 specimens and is the 3rd largest collection in KY.
Minimum Education Requirements
Ph.D. in Biology, Botany or closely related discipline with postdoctoral teaching or research experience.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements
Candidates must be able to teach courses in General Biology (majors and non-majors), Botany, Field Botany, Systematic Botany and other courses in their area of expertise. Candidates must demonstrate research potential in plant biology as evidenced by recent peer-reviewed publications, grants, and/or other scholarly activities. Candidate must have the ability to mentor undergraduate and master’s research students.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with excellent teaching skills including use of modern classroom technologies and herbarium or similar curatorial experience.
