The Faculty of Biology invites applications for a Tenure Track Professorship (W1 Tenure Track to W2)in Biodiversity of Plants to be filled at the earliest possible date. This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German Federal Government and the Federal States and is initially limited to six years. The successful applicant is expected to strengthen the research priorities of the Faculty of Biology by establishing an independent research group and to actively participate in research alliances and existing collaborative research initiatives of the Faculty of Biology such as in high mountain and forest research, as well as in the overall research priorities of the University of Marburg, especially in the areas of biodiversity and climate research. He/she is expected to have a research focus on the biodiversity of vascular plants. A willingness to cooperate with(soil) microbiological research is desirable. This call is explicitly aimed at researchers (m/f/d) in the early stages of their scientific careers. The duration of the employment in research and science after obtaining the doctoral degree should not exceed four years (in medicine seven years). In addition, applicants should not have received their doctorate at the University of Marburg. In case the doctoral degree was obtained at the University of Marburg, the applicant should have worked in research and science outside of the University of Marburg for at least two years thereafter (in accordance with § 64 Abs. 3 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz HHG, the State of Hessen Higher Education Act). We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with initial outstanding scientific achievements and an independent scientific profile in the field of speciation, systematics and phylogeny of vascular plants that demonstrates the potential for a further successful career in science at the highest international level. Profound knowledge and experience to study the relationships between populations and species, the origin of plant biodiversity and processes that maintain this diversity is expected. Research on the response of plant communities to global change is also desirable. Prerequisites are a university degree in biology, an excellent doctorate and a particular pedagogical aptitude. Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funds is desirable.The promotion of young scientists and participation in the development of teaching in the fields of biodiversity and conservation are expected. The professorship is responsible for teaching all aspects of the systematics and diversity of plants in the faculty’s undergraduate programs (BSc Biology, Biology Teacher, and MSc Biodiversity and Conservation). Because conservation biology is one of the key research topics of the Philipps-Universität Marburg, imparting taxonomic knowledge and the ability to identify plant species and communities is an important part of teaching. Teaching is both in German and English. The Philipps-Universität Marburg emphasizes research-oriented teaching.The employment requirements of §§ 61, 62 and especially 64 HHG apply. The Tenure Track professorship is initially a grade W1 fixed term (6 years) position. If the requirements under general German civil service law are met, the applicant shall be granted a temporary civil service status for a period of six years. In the event of a positive evaluation of professional, pedagogical and personal aptitude, the applicant will be granted a civil service status for life, combined with the assignment of a W2 permanent professorship.
