Full Time Associate Research Scientist level “C”
The Botanical Garden of the Institute of Biology, UNAM (IBUNAM) has the mission of conducting research on the diversity, sustainable use, in situ and ex situ conservation, management and cultural relevance of Mexican flora, as well as the dissemination of this knowledge. To fulfill this mission, this call is issued.
The Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, through its Academic Secretariat, calls upon those interested in occupying a full-time position as Associate Research Scientist level "C" with a monthly salary of $ 20,329.60 MXN, in the area of Ethnobotany within the Botanical Garden, to submit their documentation under the following specifications.
Profile of the Candidate:
An academic person is required to consolidate research in agrobiodiversity, which integrates the knowledge and sustainable management of biodiversity, considering plant genetic resources, and the socio-ecosystems used by the people of various cultures in Mexico. Three core characteristics are required:
• Knowledge of cultivated or wild plants, whether native to Mexico or naturalized.
• Knowledge to implement current or innovative technologies for the generation of models for the sustainable management of plant resources.
• Botanical experience to complement the research line described above, with coordination, consolidation and projection of the Ethnobotanical Collection that is part of the Botanical Garden, including the management of funds, and outreach activities.
Requirements.
• Degree of Doctor in Sciences or equivalent (Ph.D.) in the areas of Botany, Plant Ecology, Agrobiodiversity, Ethnobotany, Agroforestry or another related discipline.
• Knowledge and professional experience of at least 3 years in research in the sustainable management of plant resources, applying current and interdisciplinary technological tools, allowing the generation of knowledge of plant genetic resources, as well as in the development of productive and conservation projects in communities of Mexico.
• Experience and commitment to the curation of biological collections, to coordinate the Ethnobotanical Collection of the Botanical Garden.
• Vocation to develop complementary activities to research, including training of high-level human resources through teaching in the educational programs of UNAM, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as collaborating in activities to disseminate botany, and institutional participation.
• Be able to immediately join the academic activities of IB-UNAM Botanical Garden; exercise leadership in this line of research; possess the ability to obtain external funds; and be able to form new and join current research groups.
• In the case of non-Mexican candidates, they must be proficient in the Spanish language.

1. Curriculum vitae (CV), including academic degrees, publication trajectory, and experience in ethnobotany.
2. Description of the line of research (1-2 pages)
3. Work plan to be developed in the first year (maximum 15 pages) including:
(1) A research proposal for the sustainable management of plant resources, either at the population, species or community level; (2) methodological strategies for conservation of plant resources, which should be applicable in socio-ecological systems of Mexico; and (3) a proposal for increasing and disseminating the scientific contents the Ethnobotanical Collection.
4. A cover letter addressed to the Director of IBUNAM (Dr. Susana Magallón Puebla), stating the motives and interest in developing an academic career at IBUNAM (maximum 3 pages)
5. Names and contact details of two persons who can provide academic references.
