Senior Environmental Scientist (Weed Coordinator)

The Integrated Pest Control Branch at the CA Department of Food & Agriculture is recruiting to fill a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) position located in Sacramento County to serve as botanical information resource and weed program coordinator.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates the Weed Control Grant program for the Department.

  • Evaluates the pest risk of potential weeds.

  • Serves as a scientific information resource for the CDFA and other stakeholders by providing scientific botanical information.

  • Performs outreach to various land management and pest management groups.

  • Develops, assists and advises on pest management for non-native and invasive agricultural plant species that occur in California.

  • Advises on implementation of environmental standards and various environmental health-related regulations.

  • Provides scientific feedback on exotic weed species globally and the risk to California agriculture and the environment.

  • Executes data analysis from collected data from field and applied research studies and prepares scientific reports and/or presentations.

Under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent performs a broad range of scientific and professional office and field duties involving the research, environmental analysis, outreach, and logistics for the Integrated Control Branch.
