Position Summary:

The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for the position of a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor of Biology (Botany). We are seeking a broadly trained botanist to complement our existing faculty, teach undergraduate courses focused on aspects of botany, plant identification/ecology and possibly fire ecology, mentor undergraduate biology majors, and develop an undergraduate research program. Our department consists of 13 full and part-time faculty that administer two B.S degrees (Biology, and Fisheries &Wildlife Science) and one M.S. degree (Fisheries & Wildlife Science. Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Botany or a closely related field (or ABD with completion by beginning of our fall term in August 2024). Required qualifications:

• Earned Ph.D. in Botany or related field from a regionally accredited institution by the start date (August 10, 2024)

Preferred qualifications:

• Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.

• Evidence of quality teaching and scholarship in the field of Botany.

• Potential to teach a fire ecology course.

• Evidence of developing, supporting and/or implementing effective teaching and instructional technologies.

• Evidence of, or ability to, establish an extramurally funded undergraduate research program.

• Evidence of, or ability to, curate an herbarium.

• Evidence of, or potential for, creating an inclusive environment for diverse populations.
