The Wisconsin State Herbarium (WIS) within the Department of Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks applicants for a permanent Collections Manager. With a collection of >1.3 million specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens, and microfungi, WIS ranks among the largest and most active herbaria in the world. The Herbarium has a strong web-based presence on several international thematic collections portals and oversees the collaborative Online Virtual Flora of Wisconsin. The Collections Manager works closely with a tenured faculty Director, a full-time Research Curator, and dozens of volunteers, affiliates, and student hourly employees to manage these natural history museum collections and associated metadata in order to enhance teaching, research, and general interest in botany. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Herbarium and plays a critical role in implementing museum preservation practices and collection policies and helps to oversee collection documentation and reporting.
