Plant Digitization Assistant
The Atlanta Botanical Garden invites applications for the position of Plant Digitization Assistant. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Research Scientist-Genetics, Conservation Database Coordinator, and Plant Documentation Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Take high quality images of plant collections, including close up plant photography
Obtain GPS coordinates for permanently planted accessions
Maintain detailed records of all data collected according to standard operating procedures.
Upload image and GPS data into Brahms database
Manage a team of 4 summer technicians each year
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable.
Holds a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Plant Biology, Biology, or related field.
Minimum of one year of prior work experience.
Prior experience with plant photography or GIS preferred.
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to spend long periods of time in the garden or greenhouse. Ability to take careful notes and improve organization. Ability to lift 50 lb. is required.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to effectively respond to multiple, changing and often conflicting priorities is essential. Must be able to effectively interact with the general public and co-workers and peer professionals.
